Abstract
AIM:
To compare capsulorhexis complications by conventional cystitome with irrigating cystitome in mature cataract
Introduction:
One of the key steps of successful cataract surgery is creation of a capsulorhexis. In mature cataracts, due to fragility of the anterior capsule, high intralenticular pressure,Complications like runaways,Argentinian flag sign occur
Methods:
50 patients were enrolled in this comparative study. They were allocated into 2 groups. In Group A (25),conventional cystitome, Group B (25) irrigating cystitome was used for capsulorhexis
Results: In group A, liquified cortex made rhexis difficult, 4 patients (16%) had rhexis-runaway,3(12%) patients had Argentinian Flag sign.In Group B irrigating cystitome aspirated liquified cortex and made the capsule visible to complete rhexis and had no Argentinian sign but 1 case (4%) had rhexis run away
Conclusion:
Irrigating cystitome is useful to prevent complications during capsulorrhexis compared to conventional cystitome
