Abstract
Aim: To compare contrast sensitivity (CS) and higher order aberrations (HOA) b/w popular aspheric monofocal IOL and new diffractive aspheric trifocal IOL of the same material platform after cataract surgery. Methods:Single centre prospective study with sample size of 78. Included patients with post-op BCDVA 6/9 or better who had uneventful surgery and recovery and excluded those with macular pathologies and decentered IOL.Photopic CS with Pelli-Robson Chart and HoA with Hartmann-Shack aberrometer compared b/w groups after full visual recovery.Result: Significant difference b/w two groups in CS(p=0.03) with higher values in monofocal group, but no significant difference in HoA(p=0.06).Conclusion: In an age sex matched study, we found that monofocal IOL had higher levels of CS but result was statistically significant, not clinically significant. No significant difference for HOA b/w the groups. Thus we inferred that Trifocal IOL is objectively comparable to monofocal IOL in visual quality.
