Abstract
Aim:To report a case of late-onset capsular bag distension syndrome (CBDS).Methods:A patient with history of left eye uneventful phacoemulsification surgery done 7 years back presented with diminution of vision of 15 days duration. On examination, the patient had UCVA of 2/60, PCIOL in the bag with areas of after cataract and fluid collection behind the lens in the left eye. Aspiration of fluid via anterior route for diagnostic and therapeutic purpose along with irrigation of bag with vancomycin was done. Results:The bacterial culture and sensitivity of aspirated fluid showed Staphylococcus epidermidis sensitive to vancomycin, Tobramycin with partial sensitivity to moxifloxacin. The patient did well with medical management and gained a BCVA of 6/12 postoperatively. Conclusion: A strong suspicion of chronic endophthalmitis should be considered in cases of late-onset CBDS before proceeding with treatment options which can cause spill-over of material into the vitreous resulting in vitritis.
