Abstract
A 72 lady presented with decreased vision in the right eye since childhood. She was injured at 2 years of age while playing at home. Her parents apparently took her to a rural clinic, her condition did not improve and she reported that she lost her vision in that eye. On examination, the vision in her right eye was limited to perception of light and accurate PR. She had a large central corneal leucomatous corneal opacity in the right eye with RDS and HMSC. Informed consent was taken and SICS with PCIOL was done through a frown incision. Her vision postoperatively was finger counting close to face. Thus an injury in childhood led to legal blindness in that eye. We have observed that less emphasis is given to the girl child, which can lead to irreversible decreased vision/loss of vision. As an ophthalmologist, we can educate and sensitize patients who come to us about the importance of vision screening in childhood and seeking immediate treatment for any ocular injury.
