Abstract
AIM- to assess the severity of dry eye associated with wearing mask. METHODS- Prospective randomised study of patients coming to ophthalmology OPD for a 6 month period. Questionnaire consisting of total hours of wearing mask along with OSDI questionnaire was used. Based on the assessment results were concluded. RESULTS- 500 patients examined, 100 patients with pre-existing dry eye disease developed severe dry eye disease. 30 patients developed newly diagnosed moderated dry disease while 80 patients developed newly diagnosed mild dry eye disease. Conclusion- With wearing mask being a dictum in today’s age, the incidence of MADE has risen proportionally and subsequent dry eye disease. Counselling and education is a must to tackle this problem.
