Abstract
Monocular Elevation Deficit (MED) is one of the important cause of hypotropia seen by Squint specialist. Co-existence of horizontal deviations, ptosis, amblyopia, make the management of MED difficult.
Methods: Herein we report a 8 year old MED patient in left eye (LE) with ptosis associated with poor Bell’s and amblyopia. First stage, LE Knapp’s surgery (transposition of medial rectus and lateral rectus to superior rectus) without Inferior rectus recession was planned as the vertical deviation was 25PD Base up only.
Results: After surgery, hypotropia resolved and Bell’s improved. In the second stage, ptosis surgery has been planned for the patient to be followed by amblyopia management.
Conclusion: MED Patient who has associated ptosis and amblyopia needs comprehensive approach to rehabilitate the patient as a whole.
