Abstract
Method:A cross-sectional study was conducted on patients admitted with post-covid mucormycosis during the time period from May to Sep,2021.Our study included cases with and w/o orbital involvement. A/S examination and P/S evaluation using IDO was done.
RESULTS:In a cohort of 248 patients with a mean age of 50 +/- 12.33 yrs., 73.7% were males and 26.2% were females.210 (84.67%) were diabetic. A total of 480 eyes were evaluated, of which 151(31.45%) had orbital involvement. Amongst them are: normal P/S(65), CRAO(22), diabetic retinopathy(26), disc pallor(12), disc edema(10), and miscellaneous(16). The 329 uninvolved eyes included normal P/S(239), and diabetic retinopathy (53). There was no statistically significant difference between the prevalence of diabetic retinopathy in eyes with and w/o orbital involvement(p=0.39).
CONCLUSION: 1/3rd of patients with post-covid mucormycosis had retinal findings, which are related to direct disease manifestation as well as underlying co-morbidities.
