Abstract
To report 2 cases of mask associated mechanical trauma after LASIK and phacoemulsification
A 26-year old male (Case 1) who underwent uneventful bilateral LASIK presented with OD flap displacement on postoperative day1(UDVA-20/400) following trauma to eye with upper edge of mask. Flap refloatation and repositioning was done. A 48-year old female (Case 2) complained of foreign body sensation and pain in OD on POD 1 after uneventful phacoemulsification following an episode of trauma to her eye with upper edge of mask. A linear patchy inferior corneal epithelial abrasion was seen near the limbus. Patient was prescribed topical lubricants.
Case 1 had a OD UDVA of 20/20 post flap refloatation with a well centred flap. In case 2, symptoms and epithelial abrasion healed completely on medical management by postoperative day 5
Post ocular surgery patients should tape upper edge of mask to prevent its inadvertent displacement which can cause mechanical trauma to eye
