Abstract
Purpose:To determine the effectiveness of two different kxl protocols as evidenced by demarcation line(DL).
Method:A prospective study to determine the variation in DL in progressive keratoconus patients who underwent epithelium(epi) off kxl (9mw/cm2 for 10min) with 2 different riboflavin(rf) treatment time(rftt).Group A(n=30) were exposed to rf for 30 minutes(m) and intermittent rf during UVA exposure of 10 minutes and Group B(n=30),rf was instilled only during first 20m.At 6 weeks DL was analysed using the anterior segment optical coherence tomography.
Results: Mean DL in the group A was 253.47 microns(m), 255.1m in group B. Mean of the thinnest pachymetry postoperatively as determined by pentacam was 429.67m in group A and 413 m in group B respectively.
Conclusion: Mean value for depth of demarcation line was statistically insignificant between both groups (p<0.5) by chi square test. Rf instillation in epi off kxl for 20 minutes is adequately effective to cause crosslinking.
