Abstract
Purpose: To determine the occupations, level of education and demographics of patients presenting with corneal foreign body -CFB acquired during occupational work.
Method: Prospective hospital based study from JULY 2019 to MARCH 2020. Patients presenting with CFB were asked a set of questions relating to their occupation, level of education, understanding of complications.
Result: 90 male patients with CFB were included in this study. 80% patients were in the age group of 14 -29 years,15% in the age group 30- 44 years and 4% were between 45 and 50 years .Metal work industry was responsible for 55% , construction industry for 25% , Electricians and carpenters combined were responsible for 15% and 5% occurred in other sectors
Conclusion: CFB occur across a number of occupations, not just metallic workers. Among population that have less understanding of the impact that CFB can have on vision, occupational hazard education is necessary to address this problem.
