Abstract
Purpose To compare keratometric change post pterygium excision with conjunctival autograft in sutured graft patients with sutureless graft patients Methods The authors conducted prospective randomized interventional case series where 30 patients underwent pterygium removal with free conjunctival autograft. In 15 patients graft was sutured in place whereas 15 underwent sutureless graft surgery. Pre-operative and one month post operative keratometric findings were compared using statistical analysis. Results The keratometric findings change significantly following pterygium excision especially if pterygium was more than 2 mm in size. There was no statistically significant difference in keratometric change with the two techniques. Conclusion The astigmatism decreases significantly following pterygium excision with conjunctival autograft and is proportionally related to its size, however there is not much difference in keratometric change with sutureless vs sutured conjunctival graft.
