Abstract
Purpose: To report a case of excimer laser phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK) for recurrent Reis-Bücklers corneal dystrophy (RBCD) in post penetrating keratoplasty eye.
Methods: An interventional case report describing a case of a 44-year-old male with recurrent Reis-Bücklers dystrophy following penetrating keratoplasty (PKP). He underwent PTK of his left eye with 0.02% adjunctive mitomycin C (MMC).
Results: Before treatment, his best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 3/60, which improved to 6/9 after PTK. Six months after the procedure, his cornea remains clear with no recurrence of Reis-Bücklers dystrophy.
Conclusions: PTK in conjunction with MMC appears to be a safe and effective procedure for the treatment of recurrent Reis-Bücklers dystrophy after PKP and may help prevent recurrence of the disease. This procedure is ideal for the treatment of recurrent Reis-Bücklers dystrophy after PKP as it helps to avoid or delay regrafting which increases the chances of graft failure.
