Abstract
Background: The most common ocular manifestation with fever is uveitis and neuroretinits. It can be of infective or non-infective etiology and manifestations are due to direct invasion or due to immunological response to organism.
Methods: A 30-year-old male presented with fever since 10 days and diminution of vision in left eye (6/60) since 5 days. On examination, anterior segment was normal whereas fundus showed hyperemic disc with blurred margins, large patches of retinitis with hemorrhages and macular edema. All the relevant investigations were done with no significant results. Patient was started on oral tapering steroids and followed up for 1 month.
Results: Vision improved from 6/60 to 6/12, infiltrates decreased and macular edema resolved relatively.
Conclusion: Fever related retinitis with unknown etiology responds well to corticosteroid treatment thus emphasizing need for early diagnosis and timely treatment of fever related retinitis.
