Abstract
Patients with scleritis were evaluated with slit lamp examination, best corrected visual acuity ,clinical digital photography , anterior segment optical coherence tomography and specular count. Posterior corneal opacity “semilunar sign” was defined by the following criteria’s (1) Presence of posterior corneal opacity (2) Concave semilunar sign pattern of the opacity (3) Minimal clear corneal zone from the limbus (4) Absent blood vessels and (5) Normal anterior cornea. Overall 72 patients of scleritis were evaluated. Only 15 eyes of 11 patients (15.3%) presented with semilunar sign. The mean BCVA was 0.63 decimal equivalent and the opacity do not involve the pupil axis. The mean corneal endothelial opacity thickness measured 212.5±129.3microns. There was no correlation between the endothelial opacity thickness and the BCVA and ECD. Posterior corneal semilunar sign can be a telltale sign of scleritis.
