Abstract
Purpose- To find the correlation between peripapillary RNFL thickness &visual field changes in early POAG
Methods- A prospective observational study consisting of 40 early POAG eyes &40 normal eyes. All study participants underwent visual field testing with standard automated perimetry &spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) for peripapillary RNFL thickness. The correlation between average RNFL (μm) &VFMD (dB) was evaluated
Result- The mean average RNFL in cases&controls was 89.12± 5.51 & 102.45±2.36 μm respectively.This difference was statistically significant (p = 0.001). Mean VFMD in cases&controls was -4.30± 0.58 & -1.1±0.47 respectively(p=0.001). Correlation analyses between RNFL &VFMD found a statistically significant positive correlation between average RNFL with VFMD (r = 0.880 &p-value 0.001)
Conclusion-There is a statistically significant positive correlation between peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thickness &visual field changes in early POAG
