Abstract
Empty sella is a rare neuroradiological finding characterized by intrasellar cisternal herniation, associated with variable degree of flattening of the pituitary gland. It is an incidental finding in approximately 8–35% of cases, and is also characterized by heterogeneity both in clinical manifestations and hormonal alterations, sometime reaching severe extremes. We herein describe a series of 4 different cases of empty sella syndrome with varied clinical presentations. Two presented primarily to the ophthalmologist, while the remaining two were referred with incidental radiological findings, and did not show any remarkable ocular symptoms during presentation. As ophthalmologist might be 1st in line to receive these patients, this report highlights the importance of knowing the varied clinical presentations with which the diseases manifests, thereby aiding prompt recognition, diagnosis and further management.
