Abstract
A 13 year old boy presents with sudden onset bilateral blurring of vision (LE>RE) of 5 days duration. History of low grade pyrexia of unknown origin of 1 month duration associated with headache and no history of vomiting.On fundus examination both eyes showed disc edematous and hyperemic,cotton wool spots,haemorrhages ,macular edema and macular star seen.MRI revealed showed hyperintensity in the intraorbital part of optic nerve bilaterally. Patient was started on steroids, iv antibiotics and intravitrial Avastin. On follow up after 6 months, vision improved and macular edema and neurosensory detachment resolved seen in OCT.
Conclusion: Neuroretinitis usually occurs 15 days after pyrexia, seen in the third to fourth decade. It is usually unilateral ,bilateral in 5% – 30% of the cases.This was a rare interesting presentation in a 13 year old with bilateral neuroretinitis which regressed with timely treatment.
