Abstract
Craniopharyngioma is a slow -growing , epithelial-squamous, benign brain tumors arising near the pituitary glands causing pituitary hormonal function, vision loss and headaches. A 14 year old boy presented to OPD with complaints of diplopia , headache , nausea and vomiting for 5 days associated with loss of consciousness. On dilated fundoscopy, there was papilledema in right eye with dilated tortuous vessels. Disc was normal in left eye. MRI brain and orbit showed a suprasellar region suggestive of craniopharyngioma. Bilateral ventriculo peritoneal shunt noted in lateral ventricles without any dilatation of ventricles. HFA 60-4 showed bitemporal hemianopia. Patient underwent craniotomy to remove the tumor. The clinical details and post surgical outcome will be discussed later.
