Abstract
Cysticercosis is a preventable and treatable cause of blindness Endemic in Andhra and Pondicherry and South-east Asia.
• Cysticercosis is a systemic parasitic disease caused by larval form of cestode Taenia soleum.
• Clinical manifestations depend on site of involvement, number of lesions and host immune response.
•In India it mainly involves the ocular adnexa.
Early diagnosis and management can prevent the ocular morbidity It is rare because of its unique site of involvement i.e., inferior rectus and presence of two cysts in the same muscle.
•When there is no evidence of a cystic lesion then biopsy is indicated.
•Medical therapy is the recommended treatment for the extra-ocular muscle form and retro-orbital cysticercosis.
•Surgical removal is advocated for subconjunctival and eyelid cysticercosis.
