Abstract
PURPOSE- To report a case of eyelid subcutaneous phaeohyphomycosis.
METHOD- 56 year old diabetic patient presented with the complaints of swelling of BE since 3 months which is progressively increasing in size to reach a size of 8x4x6 cm cystic swelling in the lower lid of RE and 4x5x3 cm in LE. No h/of fever, diminution of vision , insect bite or trauma. USG of the periotbital area was suggestive of ?haematoma, ?abscess. FNAC was suggestive of keratinous cyst. KOH mount of the incision biopsy specimen has shown fungal hyphae and culture report came positive. Patient was treated with T. Itraconzole 200mg per day for 3 weeks.
RESULT- On 1 month follow up cyst was found to have reduced in size.
Conclusion- Cases of phaeohyphomycosis possess a diagnostic challenge to ophthalmologist as it mimics angioedema, haematoma or keratinous cyst. Prompt microbiological investigation and timely antifungal therapy can lead to disease remission
