Abstract
Purpose:Case of unilateral congenital ptosis with contralateral lagophthalmos.
Method:A 58yr old male patient presented with left sided facial weakness with inability to close left eye lid since 4 days. Detailed ophthalmic evaluation was done.
Results:On examination best-corrected visual acuity was 6/6 and N6 in both eyes. The Ocular movement was normal.On examination right eye lid showed absent lid crease with moderate ptosis and left eye showed lagophthalmos. Anterior segment examination showed few corneal epithelial defects in left eye.On examination of facial nerve, features suggestive of left sided lower motor neuron facial palsy was found. The left eye was conservatively managed with tear substitute and lid taping. With the help of galvanic stimulation patient showed improvement with complete left eye lid closure in a span of 1 month follow up.
Conclusion:Pre existing conditions may pose diagnostic dilemma, thus making a detailed history taking and thorough examination mandatory.
