Abstract
30 eyes from patients of facial dystonia were studied by a prospective hospital based descriptive analytical study in a consecutive case series. These were given Botulinum Toxin A injections for facial dystonia. The patients included those suffering from essential blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm and meig syndrome. At the time of presentation, their tear film parameters which include Schirmer’s test, Tear Break Up Time, Tear Meniscus Height and Ocular Surface Disease Index were measured. 1 month after taking these injections – the same parameters were measured. All of them except Tear Meniscus Height showed improvement. Patients also showed improvement in symptoms of dry eye. Hence, Botulinum Toxin A injection can be a useful tool in ameliorating symptoms of dry eye in patients of facial dystonia.
