Abstract
Aim: To study the clinico-pathological profile of patients undergoing orbital exenteration . Materials and Methods: All patients undergoing orbital exenteration were retrospectively reviewed.
Results:99 patients were studied, age ranged 1-85years(mean 51.5yrs),52 males,.4% underwent bilateral exenteration. Infective pathology included mucormycosis (52.5%),myiasis (3.0%) and orbital abscess 92.0%).Commonest neoplastic lesions included retinoblastoma (15.2%),OSSN (7.0%),rhabdomyosarcoma (5.0%),sebaceous gland carcinoma (5.0%) ,lacrimal gland carcinoma (5.0%).On orbital imaging ,post septal involvement was noted in all cases. Regional lymphadenopathy was seen in 15.2% cases.Chemotherapy/ radiotherapy was advised in 25.3% and systemic antifungal was administered in 52.5% patients. Conclusion: Orbital mucormycosis and advanced stage ocular malignancies were the commonest conditions requiring exenteration reflecting the need of early diagnosis and prompt management of these cases.
