Abstract
Purpose
To compare 1 year refractive outcome of lasered ROP with spontaneously regressed ROP in preterm infants.
Method
72 eyes of 38 preterm infants diagnosed with ROP were included.Group I had severe ROP that regressed by laser treatment .Group II had mild ROP that regressed spontaneously without treatment. Cycloplegic refraction was doneat 1 year of age and analysed for incidence of refractive error.
Results
In the severe-ROP group,33.3 %(12) had myopia,41.6%(15) were emmetropes & 25%(9) had hyperopia. Among the myopics, only 4(11%) had high myop.In the mild-ROP group,22.2%(8) had myopia,47.2%(17) were emmetropes and 30.5%(11) had hyperopia. About 19.1%[7] in group-I and 5.55%[2] in group-II had high astigmatism(>2D). Majority had low astigmatism (=2D) with 72.2%(26) in group-I and 61.1%(22) in group-II having with-the-rule astigmatism(75°–105°). Conclusion Incidence of myopia and astigmatism were higher in children with lasered ROP.
