Abstract

Aim: To analyze the trends of patients visiting eye emergency during COVID-19 pandemic .

Method: A retrospective study of patients attending for eye emergency from February 2020 to August 2021.

Results: Out of 1678 patients 62.63% were male. Commonest age group was 21-30 years (24.20%) followed by 31-40 years (20.98%).14.66% were Children’s < 10 years of age . Commonest cause of emergency was trauma (69.13%) followed by infectious etiology (22.17%), angle closure glaucoma (4.53%) and retinal vascular occlusion (4.17%). Adnexal trauma (51.73%) and open globe injury (12.28%) were most common. Common infectious diseases were Corneal ulcer (6.44%), rhino-orbital mucormycosis (9.89%) and orbit cellulitis (5.84%). About 41.0% patients were hospitalized and 35.64% patients required surgical intervention. Conclusion: A better knowledge of pattern and profile of eye emergency during pandemic can help in better preparedness for handling the extreme conditions.
