Abstract
A 28 year old male patient presented with history of retained intraocular wooden foreign body in his
right eye since 8 years. There was a history of trauma to his right eye with sharp wooden piece which
penetrated his eye. Patient experienced recurrent episodes of pain and redness in his right eye since
then.
Visual acuity of the right eye was 6/6. On examination there was a 3 mm x 2 mm x 2 mm brownish
particle organised and embedded within the iris at 9 o’clock position. The wooden particle was surgically removed via a clear corneal incision.
Postoperatively, patient had a clear cornea and iris chaffing with visual acuity 6/6 and N6.
Conclusion:
With due patient counselling, written and informed consent, adequate precautions, the outcome of
this particular case turned out favourable. The incidence of recurrent iridocyclitis in a patient with
retained intraocular foreign body and impending risk of infection demands prompt removal with all
necessary precautions
