Abstract
A 5 year old child presented with complaints of loss of vision in left eye .Parents gave a history of penetrating injury with a wooden stick to left eye 6 months back following which they noticed the decrease in vision in left eye.Child was diagnosed as a case of traumatic optic neuropathy and was treated conservatively. When he developed proptosis imaging was done and MRI showed heterogenously enhancing mass lesion in the left orbit with intracranial extension.Intraorbital tumour was suspected and the child was referred to our center for further management.Biopsy of the tumour was planned via a lateral canthotomy approach.During the biopsy small pieces of wood were found with the lesion and they were removed.A final diagnosis of foreign body granuloma with intracranial extension was made.Child has improved symptomatically after the procedure even though there will be permanent vision loss.
