Abstract
AIM:To highlight the need for thorough examination in case of ocular trauma.
METHODS:Reporting a case of intraorbital foreign body presenting as scleral abscess in tertiary care centre.
RESULTS:20 year old male presented with redness,pain, watering,discharge since 20days following road traffic accident.On examination patient had restricted extraocular motility temporally with scleral nodule 3mm away from the temporal limbus in the left eye.Diagnosis of scleral abscess was made,patient was put on topical and systemic antibiotics,no improvement was seen.Patient’s Bscan showed scleral indentation,CTscan reported the presence of intraorbital foreign body in extraconal compartment of left orbit extending to maxillary fissure.Patient underwent globe exploration for the same,wooden stick of 35mm was removed from the orbit.Patient s symptoms were relieved.
CONCLUSION:Presence of inflammation at site of trauma should be evaluated thoroughly for intraorbital foreign body for early intervention.
