Abstract
PURPOSE: To present a case of a penetrating ocular injury with extraocular FB.METHODS: A 30-year-old male presented to emergency services with RE injury by grinder disc & V/A of PL. O/E an UL marginal & C-S tear with hyphema was noted. An x-ray skull with orbit showed presence of FB suspected to be intraocular in location. Surgical exploration for FB & wound repair was advised.
RESULT: During surgery subcutaneous UL FB was found & was removed with forceps. Lid & Corneo-scleral wound repair was done with hyphema wash. Patient was started on topical & systemic therapy. (steroids, antibiotics, cycloplegic & pressure lowering agents) under close follow up for further management.
CONCLUSION: X-ray imaging is useful for identifying presence of radio-opaque FB however higher imaging modalities are advisable for precise location of FB. Thorough ocular & extraocular clinical evaluation with timely surgical intervention is must in cases of injury suspected for presence of foreign body.
