Abstract
Purpose: To report a rare case of choroidal neovascular membrane (CNVM) causing exudative retinal detachment successfully managed with intravitreal (IV) ranibizumab injection
Method: A 86 year male presented with poor vision in right eye since 3 months. Vision in right eye was 6/12, N8. CNVM with subretinal fluid (SRF) at the macula extending two disc diameters inferior to the inferior arcade in the right eye was seen. No retinal breaks or traction. Right eye optical coherence tomography showed fibrovascular pigment epithelial detachment and SRF. Three monthly doses of IV ranibizumab injection 0.5mg/0.05ml were given in right eye.
Result: The vision in the right eye was 6/9, N6 and the SRF had resolved. The patient was then managed on a Pro Re Nata regimen. Vision and fundus remained stable and required no further injection till the last follow up.
Conclusion: We report a fairly uncommon presentation on CNVM, which responded well to anti-VEGF therapy with no recurrences over 9 months
