Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of glare on contrast sensitivity (CS) in eyes with trifocal IOL with high angle alpha.

Methods: A Prospective study where subjects implanted with trifocal IOL (Acrysof IQ PanOptix, Alcon), aged 40-70 years with BCVA better than 0.2 logMAR were included. The eyes were divided in to two groups based on angle alpha magnitude (Group 1:≤4.5mm and Group 2: >4.5mm). At 1 month post-op, CS with and without glare at spatial frequencies 3,6,12,18 CPD was measured using CSV 1000 HGT in both groups separately and compared.

Results: The mean±SD magnitude of angle alpha in group 1 (31 eyes) and 2 (25 eyes) were 0.33±0.1 and 0.56±0.1 respectively. In both the groups the CS was reduced in the presence of glare at all spatial frequencies (P>0.05). Also, the CS was found to be reduced in group 2 as compared to group 1, with and without glare (P>0.05).

Conclusion: A small but non-significant effect of glare on contrast sensitivity was noted in eyes with higher angle alpha
