Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate the influence of angle alpha on modulation transfer function (MTF) and higher order aberrations (HOA) in eyes with Trifocal IOL.
Methods: A Prospective study where subjects implanted with trifocal IOL (Acrysof IQ PanOptix, Alcon), aged 40-70 years with BCVA better than 0.2logMAR were included. The eyes were divided in to two groups based on angle alpha magnitude (Group 1:≤4.5mm and Group 2: >4.5mm). At 1 month post-op, angle alpha, Internal HOA (3rd to 5th order) and MTF measured using Hoya I-Trace aberrometer were noted and the mean values were compared among both groups.
Results: The mean±SD magnitude of angle alpha in group 1 (31 eyes) and group 2 (25 eyes) were 0.33±0.07 and 0.56±0.1 respectively. Internal MTF were better with lower angle alpha at spatial frequencies between 5-30 CPD however it was not statistically significant (P>0.05). The Internal HOAs were similar in both groups (P>0.05).
Conclusion: Higher MTF were noted in eyes with lower angle alpha.
