Abstract

Direct Imaging of Goniomirror by Smartphone is frugal slit-lamp free device to obtain gonio-images using gonio-mirror and smartphone. A prospective trial to evaluate utility of device to educate and counsel patients of angle-closure spectrum for performing Nd:YAG PI was conducted on 200 patients. 106 patients were allotted to the device arm and 94 patients were control group. Gonioimaging using device and the slit-lamp gonioscopy for control arm was performed by same physician and counselled by the physician. Control arm was counselled verbally for need of YAG PI and device arm was counselled using images. Both groups were shown normal angle structure on printed charts. Both arms were matched for their education and economic strata. 93% patients agreed for Nd:YAG PI when they visualised their angle status in images and compared with normal, while 56% patients from the control arm agreed to the intervention (p<0.01). Smartphone imaging can be a valuable tool in glaucoma counselling.
