Abstract
Purpose- To report the incidence of secondary glaucoma and the various treatment modalities in advanced stages of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP).
Design- Retrospective analysis of case records from 2013 to 2020 at a single tertiary eye center.
Methods – Data including the perinatal period, age of presentation, stage of ROP and its management, secondary glaucoma and its management were analysed
Results-122 eyes in 61 children were diagnosed with ROP of varying stages. Sixty five percent of the eyes had stage 4a, 4b and 5 ROP and twelve percent presented with Agressive posterior ROP. Secondary glaucoma was detected in one fifth of these eyes .Glaucoma could be controlled with medical management in eighteen eyes and surgical intervention was necessary in eight eyes to control glaucoma.
Conclusion- Children with advanced stages of ROP have higher risk to develop glaucoma .Improved treatment strategies for ROP and associated glaucoma can provide a more holistic care to these children.
