Abstract
Method:20 patients presenting to the ophthalmology OPD with complaints of watering and discharge from the eyes showing delayed regurgitation of mucoid flakes from the opposite punctum on sac syringing were included in the study. They were diagnosed as chronic dacryocystitis and underwent Dacryocystocystorhinostomy using modified Pawar’s Intracystic Implant under local anesthesia. Post-operative assessment was done at day 1, 7 and 30.Results- On all post-operative visits 19 out of 20 cases showed sac patency. Most common postoperative complication was lid and incisional edema which resolved on subsequent visits.Conclusion-This study demonstrates advantages of implant DCR over conventional DCR -Nasal packing not necessary, small incision lacrimal bypass surgery,no need to cut the medial palpebral ligament,no need of creating sac and nasal mucosal flaps and anastomosis, easy and less time consuming, minimal intra and post-operative bleeding complication.
