Abstract
Linezolid(Lz) is used in XDRTB which is known to cause optic neuropathy(ON). It’s important to report the ocular safety, side effect and prevalence of ON in XDR-TB. Patients with complaints of diminution of vision secondary to Lz were evaluated.30 patients analysed. Mean age at presentation-30.8±9.9 years. 20 male,10 female. Average duration of Lz use was 9.0±3.9 months, dosage 600mg once daily. Presenting vision ranged from 6/18 to CF.CV impaired in all. Optic disc finding ranged from normal to total pale.VEP depressed in 22 and flat in 8.On HVF centrocaecal scotoma found in 36%,non specific field defects in 36%.OCT RNFL showed increased thickness in 40%,high normal in 33% and reduced thickness in 27%.Patients presenting early within 3 weeks regained vision while those presenting late did not recover.Prevalence of ON-9% and occurred after use beyond 4-6 months. The earlier the patient presented better the chances of recovery.Toxicity correlated to duration of treatment, rather than dose.
