Abstract
Aim of study is to analyse the role of combined modality management which includes orbital radiation anti inflammatory therapy and immunosuppressive therapy in the management of compressive optic neuropathy due to thyroid eye disease. Nine patients were included .FIVE males and four females . mean age was 60 years. Followup ranged from 12 to 60 months . Complete Ophthalmic evaluation and orbital imaging done .pre treatment visual acuity ranged from CF 3m to 6/9.Patient was treated pulse methylprednisolone therapy. If the patient is responsive , patient was started on orbital radiation after 2 weeks. After one month of pulse therapy patient was added on oral immunosuppressant continued for six months. The results were recorded at 12 months. All 9 patients showed improvement or stability in visual acuity to 6/9 or better and reduction in proptosis by 2mm or more.Combined modality treatment is an effective tool in DON and it replaces surgical orbital decompression.
