Abstract
Aim:To evaluate the effect of BTX injection in DRS
Method:In 25 patients aged 17 to 34 yrs with DRS (eso, exo and ortho) with deviation >15 PD, globe retraction >gd 2 & overshoot >gd 2 BTX was injected in med rectus for esoDRS, lat rectus for exoDRS and in both muscles for ortho DRS. Categorization into 3 groups post inj: complete success (residual deviation < 8 PD, abnormal head posture AHP < 5º, globe retraction ≤ gd 1, overshoot ≤ gd 1), partial success and failure Result:The deviation before inj was 26.32 ± 15.71 PD which improved to 14.54 ± 13.89 PD. The AHP was 11.58 ± 7.43° improved to 7.86 ± 6.25°. Overshoot, globe retraction improved. Complete success in 6 pts, partial success in 12 and no improvement in 7 at 1 week post inj. There was an association between the outcome & FDT Conclusion:BTX can help DRS patients gain an insight into their condition, help them decide on their course of action and set realistic expectation with respect to the outcome of any surgical intervention
