Abstract
AIM: To study the effect of single intracameral injection of 2mg triamcinolone on post-operative inflammation in traumatic pediatric cataract surgery.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This prospective, comparative, interventional study was performed on 43 eyes of unilateral traumatic pediatric cataract visiting tertiary center of Jharkhand between July 2020 to June 2021.Patients were randomly divided into Study group(21patients) who receive intracameral triamcinolone acetonide (2mg) at the end of surgery& control group (22 patients) who were not given.
RESULTS: Posterior synechiae and cellular deposits observed in 5 eyes (23.8%) of study group & 9 eyes (40.9%) of control group. Control group also has fibrinous anterior chamber reaction in 4 eyes& obscuration of visual axis in 5 eyes while no such complication was seen in study group.
CONCLUSION: Intracameral triamcinolone acetonide markedly decrease anterior segment inflammation postoperatively providing better visual outcome.
