Abstract
Purpose: To compare the clinical efficacy of swept source anterior segment optical coherence tomography (ASOCT) vs ultrasound bio-microscopy (UBM) in post-traumatic cataracts.
Methods: A total of 94 post-traumatic cataracts undergoing surgery were evaluated on ASOCT and UBM prospectively. The clinical information gathered with respect to capsular details and overall 360 degrees lens was evaluated with each tool.
Results: The average age of 94 patients was 26 years. ASOCT was able to generate posterior capsular details in 90 (95.74%) patients and UBM in 94 (100%). Within seconds, 360 degrees scanning along 16 meridians were possible with ASOCT, whereas on UBM, scanning along a single meridian was possible at any given point of time. The ASOCT detailed finite intra-lenticular changes and UBM gross changes.
Conclusions: ASOCT provides lenticular details on par with UBM in traumatic cataracts. Additionally, intra-lenticular and liquefactive changes can better be studied on ASOCT.
