Abstract
Purpose: Analysis of OCTA changes in the retinal microvasculature in non-diabetic stage 5 CKD patients vs. age-matched healthy controls.
Methodology: We recruited 30 CKD patients, 30 controls to a prospective cross-sectional study. Scans were performed on DRI Triton plus OCT machine on area of 4.5×4.5mm on the fovea from superficial and deep retinal vascular plexus for all eyes. Local fractal analysis method was used to quantify the OCTA parameters and FAZ area.
Results: Compared to controls, CKD patients had significantly reduced superficial and deep vessel density (p<0.001). FAZ area did not differ between groups. Conclusions: We report reduced vessel density in CKD patients as compared to age-matched controls. These vascular changes could explain the emergence of retinopathy in patients with non-diabetic renal failure.
