Abstract
Aim: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of topical with intracameral mydriatics anaesthetic (tropicamide 0.02%, phenylephrine 0.31%, lidocaine %) and compare with standard topical mydriatics regimen (tropicamide 0.8%, phenylephrine 5%). Methods: 50 eyes of 50 pts with cataract who underwent phacoemulsification were divided into 2 equal groups (A,B). Pts of group A received 0.2 ml of intracameral mydriatics anaesthetic along with topical mydriatics. Outcomes were measured on the basis of stable mydriasis, pupil size and pts’ perception of pain.
Results: Both groups achieved adequate mydriasis of >7mm. The mean change in pupil diameter from capsulorhexis to IOL insertion was -0.160.42 mm and -1.870.76 mm respectively and was comparatively more stable in grp A. Pts of group A reported minimal discomfort during surgery. Conclusion: Use of intracameral mydriatics anaesthetic is an effective and safe adjunct to topical mydriatics in providing stable mydriasis and ocular comfort to patient.
