Abstract
AIM
Determine prevalence and distribution of ocular morbidties and visual impairment present in rural sites of Bhubaneswar.
METHOD
A study on 1028 patients attending eye camp during September 2020 –August 2021 study period,including all age groups and all ocular disorders. VA,BCVA,IOP evaluation ,anterior segment examination with slitlamp,fundoscopy in relevant cases were done.Any patient for further investigation were sent to hospital ophtha lmology department .
RESULT
The order of ocular morbidity are Refractive error>cataract> dry eye>corneal opacity>corneal degeneration>pterygium>diabetic retinopathy>glaucoma>inflammation>Squint.
CONCLUSION
In this survey majority of causes of decreased vision are avoidable like refractive error followed by cataract.So there should be a need of new strategies for the early detection of ocular diseases and to provide visual rehabilitation to poor rural population,as the major causes are either preventable or treatable.
