Abstract
Purpose:To compare the surgical workload,complications & visual outcomes using 3D system with conventional microscope(CM)
Methods:Prospective,non – randomized,open-label interventional study of patients undergoing phacoemulsification cataract surgery with 3D or CM.Comparing Duration of surgery,Complications,visual acuity ,Surgeons’ heart rate(HR),oxygen saturation(SPO2) & self-reporting of cognitive workload using NASA Surgery Task Load Index(SURG-TLX)questionnaire
Results:Of 203 eyes,80 underwent surgery with 3D system.No difference was noted in complications,visual outcomes or cognitive workload.However,capsulorhexis was faster with CM,PCIOL insertion was quicker with 3D.As compared to baseline,HR increased in all steps & SPO2 levels raised during capsulorhexis,I&A & PCIOL insertion in 3D group & during incision with CM
Conclusions:Complications,visual acuity & surgeons’ cognitive workload are unaffected while performing phacoemulsification cataract surgery with 3D as compared to CM
