Abstract
BACKGROUND
Bilateral Optic Neuritis (BON): An inflammatory autoimmune disease of the optic nerve with similar presentation as Multiple Sclerosis. A specific serum auto-Ab against Aqp-4 is associated. This study aims at reviewing the RNFL thickness in patients with past history of BON and their variations from asymptomatic people.
METHODOLOGY
Cross-sectional study; Comparable groups were clinically examined, tested for RNFL thickness by SD-OCT machine and serum Anti-Aqp-4Ab values. Period: 6months (Oct’20-Mar’21)
RESULTS
M:F=4:16, mean age 38.20yrs. Mean RNFL thickness was 9.80µm in the study group and 12.30µm in the control group (p<0.05). RNFL thickness in Anti-Aqp4Ab(+) cases was 7.77µm and in Anti-Aqp4Ab(-) cases was 12.86µm (p<0.05). Mean Distant Visual Acuity was 0.82 in the Anti-Aqp-4Ab(+) group and 0.18 in the (-) group. CONCLUSION Mean CSF RNFL thickness was lesser in the cases of BON as well as in Anti-Aqp4 Ab(+) groups. Final Visual Outcome was poorer in Anti-Aqp4Ab(+) cases.
