Abstract

AIM: To assess the frequency and types of lens – induced glaucoma and visual outcome

METHODS: A study of 88 patients / eyes with lens induced Glaucoma over 12 month who underwent surgery. Visual acuity and intraocular pressure pre and post operatively assessed. The patients were followed up from the time of admission and surgery till 4 weeks post-operatively.

RESULT: In our study mean age of presentation is 60 years. Higher incidence of phacomorphic glaucoma which accounts to 62%. In our study good visual outcome of 6/6 to 6/12 was observed in 48%.

CONCLUSION: Majority of patients had good vision in the other eye so neglected the affected eye and this resulted in the development of lens induced glaucoma. Visual outcome is poor when the patients presented late after the development of the symptoms of lens induced glaucoma. There is a need to educate both the patients and the cataract surgeon of the dangers of lens induced glaucoma and of the poor outcome if treatment is delayed.
