Abstract
Rhino-Orbital-Cerebral Mucormycosis is one of the clinical forms of systemic Mucormycosis, an opportunistic angio-invasive aggressive fungal infection caused by Mucorales. It is a rare disease affecting nasal cavity, Sinuses, Orbits and the Central Nervous System. It has been increasingly reported in Immunocompromised, and Diabetics during the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic. Treatment protocol of ROCM depends upon the Radiological imaging and staging.Stage-3 and stage-4 ROCM involves the orbits and central nervous system respectively. Patients presenting with or progressing to these stages with loss of vision not responding to Retrobulbar,Systemic Amphotericin-B and FESS with Orbital decompression, Orbital Exenteration becomes a life saving procedure by reducing the disease load.We present a case series of 8 patients with advanced stages of ROCM who underwent Orbital Exenteration and is under regular follow-up with rapid and remarkable recovery from the debilitating disease.
