Abstract
INTRODUCTION:Mucormycosis,once a rare disease has now become an emerging disease during the COVID 19 pandemic.It primarily affects immunocompromised individuals leading to both vision and life threatening disease.
METHODOLOGY:A cross sectional study was conducted for 3 months on 50 patients who were diagnosed with mucormycosis & are admitted in a tertiary care hospital.Demographic data & detailed history was noted.Ocular examination was performed and details noted.Treatment given was noted.
RESULTS:There is a male preponderance.Unilateral presentation was more with RE>LE.Most common presenting symptom was facial pain & headache while sign being periorbital edema followed by proptosis.Patients who presented early were treated promptly with antifungal drugs and undergone sinus debridement.More severe cases have undergone orbital exenteration.
CONCLUSION: Multidisciplinary timely diagnosis & management proved to be an effective approach which improves the prognosis of the disease.
