Abstract
The Mobile Ophthalmic Unit consist of a transporter vehicle with capacity to accommodate ophthalmologist, optometrist, instruments and patients to provides a comprehensive eye care which includes screening , refractive error testing ,dilation, tonometry for glaucoma, a retina, macula and cataract testing and treatment etc. The aims is to provide improved access to eye care services, to further expand eye-care coverage and to make eye care services available in remote and underprivileged areas of the country . We propose that all RIOs in the country should be equipped with a dedicated mobile ophthalmic unit so that the ophthalmic problems in the community may be addressed early and the load on tertiary care hospitals is reduced. This can serve as a boon at the community level.
