Abstract
Aim: To assess the retinal function by entoptic phenomenon in patients posted for cataract surgery.
Method:A cross-sectional study was undertaken in tertiary care eye hospital from January 2020 to January 2021.Total of 100 eyes(90 patients with 80 unilateral and 10 bilateral cataract) were recruited in study.Entoptic test performed with penlight and patients asked about perception of light.Visual acuity>6/60 and <6/60 were considered as good and bad visual function.Following cataract surgery, visual acuity was determined and compared with preoperative findings. Results:of 100 eyes,75% reported entoptic phenomenon. After cataract surgery,of 75%,93.3% and 6.66% have visual acuity >6/60 and <6/60 respectively.of 25 eyes where no entoptic phenomenon was reported,60% and 40% eyes have visual acuity >6/60 and <6/60 respectively. Conclusion:Entoptic visualization can be used for preoperative assessment of retinal function in dense cataract patients undergoing surgery in resource-poor settings.
